Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre (FPC) recently conducted a Fiedl Day at the Kushinga Garden The works at Kushinga Community Nutrition Garden in Chimanimani were facilitated by The Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded Project called “Management of Competing water uses and associated ecosystems in Pungwe, Buzi and Save basins” which was being implemented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and being executed by Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP-SA) together with the Governments of Mozambique and Zimbabwe and Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre (FPC) is among the implementing partners to the Zimbabwe government.
The field day was aimed at highlighting the importance of improved water infrastructure in rural agriculture, showcasing how initiatives like the Kushinga Community Nutrition Garden have enhanced food security and income for local families.
Chimanimani District Agricultural Extension Officer and Guest of Honor, Mr. Alfred Samutsa commended the funding partners for bringing such an impactful development in Ward 7, which has benefited the Tagarirwa community at large.
“I want to appreciate the partners for empowering the Tagarirwa Village, entrusting them with such a project that has positively impacted and benefited not only the garden members but the community at large, thank you FPC and GWPSA,” said Mr Samutsa.
Speaking at the field day, FPC Director Mr. Kudzanai Lewis Mashingaidze emphasized the importance of continued cooperation amongst the garden members to ensure sustainability of the project.
“What we are witnessing here is evidence of the hard work each and every one has put towards the success of the Kushinga Garden, thus I want to thank all of you for the commitment.
“…continued cooperation within the garden will ensure the sustainability of this garden, resulting in food security at individual household level and the entire community, increased income and eventually lifting your standard of life, hence the need to continuously work together for a sustainable future,” said Mr. Mashingaidze.
With farmers giving testimony of how much the introduction of the project has solved various challenges that the community was facing, they expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the funders and pledged to continue working hard as they have seen a positive change in their lives.
“We appreciate FPC and GWPSA for entrusting the Tagarirwa Village with such a life-changing project that we as a community has benefited profoundly from,” said Mr. Shorai Chiyeza the Kushinga garden Chairperson.
Also in attendance was the traditional and local leaders, extension officers and various other stakeholders.
