SWISSAID VISITS FPC

Fambidzanai Permaculture Centre (FPC) on the 30th of October, welcomed representatives from SwissAid, Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), and the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) for a familiarization visit ahead of the upcoming Agroecological Transition and Community Resilience through Neglected and Underutilized Species in Zimbabwe (AGRecoNUS Project).
 
The visit marked an important step in laying the foundation for the project, which is set to commence early 2026 in Binga, Lupane, and Hwange Districts, the initiative aims to strengthen community resilience, promote agroecological farming methods, and revive the cultivation and use of neglected and underutilized species (NUS) that are vital for nutrition, biodiversity, and sustainable livelihoods.
 
During the visit, the delegation toured FPC’s demonstration sites, training facilities, the conventional and mobile soil laboratory, gaining insight into the centre’s longstanding work in organic farming, permaculture design, and farmer capacity building.
 
The visitors commended the Centre’s holistic approach and its potential role as a technical and training hub for the AGRecoNUS project.
 
The familiarization visit concluded with a shared commitment among all partners to promote food sovereignty, climate resilience, and inclusive development in Zimbabwe’s dryland regions. As preparations advance, the visit has strengthened collaboration and set a strong foundation for a meaningful agroecological transition.
