Project Summary
With the water crisis increasingly looming especially due to the increasing population and industrial activities, smallholder farmers in areas that receive low rainfall should start to adopt water conservation methods that significantly reduce water but retaining yield rates. Wicking beds are some of the water conservation methods that the farmers are using to reduce irrigation water but still getting the desired yields. Wicking beds save more than 60% water when compared to surface watering. Wicking beds are a water-saving method that self-irrigates through capillary action.
Objective 1
Facilitate training of 15 smallholder farmers and 5 local leaders on wicking bed making.
Objective 2
Impact assessment of innovation
Objective 3
Explore scalability
