Mbire Youths Interact With Government Office Bearers at Memorable Green Skills Youth Symposium

A vibrant gathering of young smallholder farmers and innovators met at Madzomba Primary School in Mbire ward 3 to unfold this year’s Green Skills Youth Symposium.

Over 200 enthusiastic youths attended, bringing with them a diverse array of agroecology products and innovations. Their goal was clear: to demonstrate to government officials and private stakeholders the significant role agroecology plays in empowering the youth, especially young women and girls living in poverty.

The atmosphere was electric with creativity and passion. Youths expressed their challenges and successes through exhibitions and other various forms of art, including theatre, drama, music, poetry, and dance. These performances not only entertained but also conveyed powerful messages about the societal realities and the potential of agroecological practices in improving the youths’ livelihoods.

Child marriage, drug and substance abuse, emerged as the main challenges that have and are currently impeding youth and women empowerment in Mbire. However, on a positive note, Mbire, according to the National AIDS Council district officer, Mr. Chinhema, recently registered a significant fall in HIV prevalence rate.

Government representatives from more than 20 ministries and departments were present, engaging directly with the young farmers and innovators. This interaction provided a platform for open dialogue, where the youths could voice their experiences and aspirations. The government officials, in turn, gained a deeper appreciation of the contributions and needs of these young agroecologists and green innovators.
